Combustion furnaces should be equipped with filters, both on the gas and air lines, which must be checked periodically for blockage. The job of a filter is to strain the fluid passing through it, so that components downstream do not become blocked or damaged by foreign matter. If a filter is doing its job, then eventually the media within the filter will become so congested that little or no fluid will pass through it.
